Guelder-rose (Viburnum opulus)
Description:
Smooth shrubs with angular-lobed toothed leaves on star-shaped shanks. It has white flowers, with the outer flowers in the inflorescence being fruitless, but their nimbus is four or five times bigger than of those in the middle, the fruitful ones; the stone is red, elliptical, flattened. In the wilderness, guelder-rose is encountered in damp places, mixed and deciduous woods, in forest edges, glades, cuttings down, among thickets, bushes, in river valleys, lakes and bogs.Guelder-rose is often planted in parks and gardens as a decoration. Guelder-rose is encountered in Europe, Asia and Central America. Its fruits are edible after being processed with cold; flowers and bark are used in popular medicine in the forms of tea, broth or infusion. Guelder-rose fruits are a diabethical product. They contain sugars, tannic and pectinaceous substances, essential oils, amino acids; rich with ascorbic, acetic, valeric acids, A, ะก, P, K vitamins, as well as fitonicides, which eliminate pathogenic microbes.
Used in cases of:
1) Atherosclerosis;
1) Gastritis with low acidity;
1) Colitis;
1) Stomach and duodenum ulcer;
1) Cold, hoarseness, tonsillitis, bronchitis, pneumonia;
1) Angiospasms;
2) Bronchial asthma, cough;
3) Boil, skin rash, pityriasis, acne;
4) Neurosis, neurasthenia, hysteria;
5) Hypertension;
6) Uterus, nose and hemorrhoid bleeding, painful menstruation;
7) Heart-related edema, dyspnea, palpitation.
Methods of application:
1) 20 grams of guelder-rose fruits are pounded, poured with 250 ml of boiled water, tinctured for 4 hours, and then filtered. Take 100 ml before meal 2-3 times a day.
2) 40 grams of fruits are pounded, poured with 200 ml of hot honey, tinctured for 2 hours. Take one big spoon 4 times a day after meal.
3) Squeeze out the juice out of the fruits and use it for greasing the problem areas or making a compress. In the same time use the fruit infusion (1*) for achieving an anti-inflammation effect.
4) Use 1 glass of boiled water for 1 teaspoon of crushed guelder-rose bark, heat for 30 minutes on a small fire, cool down a bit and filter. Take 1 big spoon 3 times a day 30 minutes before meal.
5) Pour 500 ml of boiled water in a half of a glass of guelder-rose fruit, infuse for 10 minutes, filter, add 3 big spoons of honey, stir. Take 100 ml 4 times a day before meal.
6) Pour 1 glass of boiled water over 2 teaspoons of crushed guelder-rose bark, heat for 15 minutes on a small fire, cool down a bit and filter. Take 2 big spoons 4 times a day.
7) 2 big spoons of guelder-rose fruit poured with 200 ml of boiled water, heat for 15 minutes on a small fire, cool down to room temperature for 45 minutes, filter. Take 80 ml 3-4 times a day.
Contradictions:
Hypotension, increased acidity of gastric fluid, arthritis, gout, urolithic illness, pregnancy, raised blood coagulability, propensity to blood clot formation.
